The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 establishes federal protection for patient safety work product (PSWP) when submitted to entities created by the act called Patient Safety Organizations (PSO’s). These new organizations must comply with requirements defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to provide a secure method of submitting patient safety work product, protect the anonymity of the work product, and provide research and analysis to assist healthcare providers to improve patient safety and quality.
